Channels

Notifly can notify customers via email, SMS, and WhatsApp. Which channels are available depends on your plan, and whether you’ve connected your own provider accounts.

Email is available on all plans and works without any external account. By default Notifly sends from its own email infrastructure.

Bring your own SendGrid (Pro): If you’d prefer to send from your own domain and sending account, connect SendGrid under Custom Providers in the Notifly dashboard. You’ll need:

  • SendGrid API Key — get this from your SendGrid settings
  • From Email — must be a verified sender in your SendGrid account
  • From Name (optional) — the display name customers see in their inbox

SMS is available on Basic plans and above. On Basic, Notifly sends SMS through its own shared infrastructure. On Pro, you can connect your own Twilio account for full control over sending, costs, and phone number.

To connect Twilio for SMS (Pro):

  1. Go to Custom Providers in the Notifly dashboard
  2. Check Use my own Twilio account
  3. Enter your Account SID and Auth Token from your Twilio Console
  4. Enter your Twilio phone number in E.164 format (e.g. +12015551234)
  5. Click Save Twilio Settings

When you save, Notifly automatically configures your Twilio number to handle STOP replies — subscribers can unsubscribe by replying STOP to any message.

WhatsApp is available on Pro plans but requires your own Twilio account with WhatsApp Business approval — Notifly does not provide a shared WhatsApp sender.

To enable WhatsApp:

  1. Connect your own Twilio account under Custom Providers (SMS section)
  2. In your Twilio console, go to Messaging → Senders → WhatsApp senders and enable WhatsApp on your number
  3. Once approved, go back to Custom Providers and check My Twilio account has WhatsApp Business enabled on this number

The WhatsApp option will then appear in the subscriber widget for your customers.

Which channels appear in the subscription modal

Section titled “Which channels appear in the subscription modal”

The modal only shows channels that are available on your plan and fully configured. Customers won’t see a broken or disabled option — if a channel isn’t ready, it simply doesn’t appear. Email is always shown.

Customers can select any combination of available channels when subscribing.

To disconnect a provider, go to Custom Providers, uncheck Use my own SendGrid account or Use my own Twilio account, and save. Notifly will fall back to its default sending infrastructure for that channel.
